Hey, it’s Amanda!

I don’t do this very often — write something from me specifically. But the other day I had a few different people ask me where in all the world, my favorite place is.

It made me think about places and favorites and how to me — we’re asking the wrong question. Forget places. Forget countries and borders and trips and things as a whole.

Instead, I thought about my favorite moment — and today I want to share that with you.

Henna in Morrocco

Morocco is already a magical country, and when you add in the experiences and people we have spent years adding to our itinerary, it makes for a super special trip. One of the 'omg, this is so amazing, how is this my life' moments is in the Sahara Desert.

After zooming around the desert on a 4x4, stopping at a Bedouin family's home for tea and to see how they bake bread in the ground (seriously a makeshift oven in the sand!), we go to meet our transportation for the evening: very well taken care of camels.

On camelback, we take a slow ride over sand dunes as the sun sets. We leave all traces of buildings, roads, and city lights behind as the sky turns pink and orange and the stars start to twinkle. We stop for photos and to sit and feel the peace of the desert. Then just when the sun is about to disappear behind the sand, our candle-lit camp comes into view.

It's a circle of luxury tents all with AC and private bathrooms with beautiful rugs and a fire going in the center of camp. Our hosts greet us with drums, and after you say thank you to your camels, you walk up to a scene of your Moroccan dreams.

When I go on this tour, I usually help the team get everyone's luggage to camp and sit for a few minutes alone in the desert waiting for everyone to arrive. The moment our girls walk up to camp is my favorite. Everyone's eyes are lit up, some people cry, and often travelers are too in awe to even take out their cameras right away.

One time, a traveler saw me waiting and came over and gave me the biggest hug. She told me I outdid myself and that this was the best moment of her life. She was crying, so I was crying.

I carry that moment with me every time I need a reminder of why I do this. They really do make travel dreams come true, and if I can help even a handful of women feel as alive, inspired, connected, and in absolute awe of this life, as she did in this moment, then that's all I need.

So that’s my story. My take-my-breath-away-and-yet-so-simple moment.

If you want to join us in Morocco this spring, we would love to have you.

I love you always,
Amanda, Founder of SoFe Travel
